Event description
Oakland Stock comes to Cubberley, supporting artists' projects one bowl of soup at a time!

About this Event

Cubberley Stock is March 24!

Call for Proposals & Diners

In these times, we need to show solidarity with fellow artists and activists, supporting them through alternative economies, one bowl of soup at a time. Come eat a lovely meal, meet your community, vote on and support artist projects, and have a swell time.

Sunday, March 24th 6pm-8:30pm

Artist Deadline- Sunday, March 3rd, 11:59 pm

Cost- $15-$25 sliding scale. All profits go to the winning artist.

Chefs + Hosts: Lexa Walsh of Oakland Stock & the Cubberley Stock Team

Who’s Invited: You are! Soup lovers, artists and those interested in supporting them.

Stock is part of the Sunday Soup network, supporting artists’ projects one bowl of soup at a time. Diners pay a small dinner fee, feast on a gourmet meal, and listen to artists propose new projects that need funding. The diners vote on their favorite project to support and the winning artist takes the money to use for their work.

Sometimes success in the art world seems pretty random. Stock offers an opportunity for community members to support the cultural production they find important through Food, Funding, Feedback, & Followup.

Stock is organized by artist/chef Lexa Walsh and and supported by a team of fellow volunteers. Oakland Stock was originally supported with a Southern Exposure Alternative Exposure Award in 2012.

About the Cubberley Community Center

Cubberley is a 35-acre site at 4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303. The Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) owns 27 acres of the site, and the rest is owned by the City of Palo Alto. The site was home to Cubberley High School from 1956 to 1979, when it closed due to declined school enrollment. In 1990, the site reopened as Cubberley Community Center. The Center is home to over thirty long-term tenants and provides hourly rental space for special events. The programs at the site include daycare, early childhood education, artist studios, dance studios, language classes, after school programs, martial arts, sports, senior services, health services, and many other programs.

The Cubberley Co-Design Process is currently underway and is an opportunity for the Palo Alto community to envision a new future for this valuable community site. For more information about the Cubberley Community Center, please visit the website.

Finalists: Please be prepared to pitch your project with a brief presentation (usually a PowerPoint assembled by Stock staff with your application materials). If funded, you will be responsible for making a presentation regarding your progress on this project at a future date.
