US DECISION ON CUBA TERROR-DESIGNATION PANEL FORUM DISCUSSION
Tampa, Florida – April 9, 2013 – The World Trade Center Tampa Bay and Florida Council of Churches will co-host a panel forum on the upcoming decision Secretary of State, John Kerry, has to make on whether to advocate that the Obama Administration should take Cuba off a list of state sponsors of terrorism, a collection of Washington foes that also includes Iran, Syria and Sudan.
U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor has called for the Obama administration and Congress to lift travel restrictions and the 51-year-old trade embargo on Cuba.
"Cuba is changing," said Castor, D-Tampa, who returned from a fact-finding trip to the island. "They have embarked on economic reforms that the United States of America should promote. The United States of America now should normalize relations and begin a constructive dialogue with the island nation."
A group of respected panelists will share their insights on the legal, social, cultural, and economic backgrounds of Cuba and their impact on the Tampa Bay Area. These individuals include:
• John B. Grandoff, Attorney, Hill Ward Henderson,
• Rob Lorei, News and Public Affairs Director, WMNF
• Annie Betancourt, Former State Representative and LWVF Director
• Bill Hauf, President, Island Travel and Tours [Licensed Charter Airline Operator to Cuba]
• Ralph Fernandez, Esq., Panelist, Tampa Attorney and Cuban Affairs Activist
Both the World Trade Center Tampa Bay and Florida Council of Churches are nonpartisan organizations. The event is open to the public.
