Rapper Schoolboy Q, mostly known for his associations with Top Dawg Entertainment and his collaborative hit with A$AP Rocky called “Hands On the Wheel”, has spent a considerable amount of time in his short career perfecting his versatility and style. The LA Weekly commented on his first full independent album release, Setbacks, that “His style had begun to take shape, with his penchant for stretching vowels like Silly Putty or slurring a word and then snapping back into double time.” Although Q cites legendary rappers Diddy, Jay-Z, and 50 Cent as heavy influences, he still manages to set himself apart with dark and reflective albums coupled with a high energy performance.

Also currently touring with Schoolboy Q under A$AP Rocky is Danny Brown, a stark contrast to the emotional Schoolboy Q. As a child, his mother used to read Dr. Suess books to him, leading to his gifted ability with rhyme. After beginning his career with the group Rese’vor Dogs in Detroit, Brown continued working with other artists, making a name for himself in both Detroit and New York City. In 2011, he signed to Fool’s Gold Records and released XXX, which Spin Magazine declared the best hip hop album of 2011. Pitchfork also rated the album highly, saying that “His gleeful love of words not only elevates some pretty heavy subject matter; it also helps distinguish XXX as one of the most compelling indie rap releases in an already strong year.

Local electronic/trap producer Be Good will be opening up the night. He recently headlined Club 156 and has played a number of venues in the Denver/Boulder area in the past year. Beginning his musical career at the age of 15 in a nationally touring act, Be Good moved into the arena of producing, citing everything from Flosstradamus to James Brown as influences.
