Community Conversations Science Café is a bi-monthly speaker’s series produced by the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center, UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities, and the Powerhouse Science Center.

Background on the Science Café Series

The Center for Reducing Health Disparities (CRHD) and the Clinical and Translational Science Center at the University of California, Davis are proud partners with the Powerhouse Science Center. Since December 2016, our collaborative partnership produces the Community Conversation Science Café speaker series. These community-research education conversations are hosted bimonthly and serve to provide cutting edge research information to lay audiences and to create and foster a safe space in which community members can actively participate in these informal sessions in a community setting. The purpose of the events is to create casual conversations with scientists aimed at engaging the general public in a discussion about research, current events, and other aspects of science that have current public interest (e.g., the opioid addiction crisis and how to manage it, the spread and dangers of the Zika virus, etc.). These bi-directional community conversations include preparing researchers to talk with and learn from the ultimate beneficiaries of scientific health discoveries (the public), enhance the public trust in science, increase scientific literacy of lay audiences, and spark interest in collaborations with health researchers.
