Event description

Description

Cabrini University is pleased to host the 2017 Philadelphia regional meeting of the College Theology Society. This year, the event will be held on Thursday, October 26. As usual, the event will begin at 6:00 pm with wine and hors d’oeuvres. Dinner will start by 7:00 pm.

This year, Michael Canaris will lead us in a discussion on our various institutional responses to immigrant/undocumented students in a time of inflammatory political rhetoric. Canaris, born and raised in our region, teaches at the Institute of Pastoral Studies at Loyola University of Chicago. Canaris serves on the interdisciplinary University Dreamer Committee advising the LUC president on immigration issues, and chairs the IPS Global Engagement Committee. He played an integral role in a substantial Ford Foundation grant exploring undocumented students in the 28 Jesuit Colleges and Universities, whose findings were presented in the United States Senate, along with the overwhelming majority of the Jesuit university presidents. Canaris studied ecclesiology with Avery Dulles, Francis Sullivan, Brad Hinze and Paul D. Murray, and now employs an ecclesial commitment to "reception" in his work with immigrants, the homeless, and other vulnerable populations.

Attendees can register here or confirm attendance with Nicholas Rademacher. Payment may me made with a credit card through this site, or attendees can bring or mail a $30 check made out to Cabrini University.

This event is sponsored by Cabrini University, with support from Cabrini University's Center on Immigration, Religious Studies Department, and Wolfington Center.
