Join us for a CSSJ Lunch Talk with Jordan Brewington, entitled "Runaway Slave Advertisements and the American University: Undergraduate Scholarship at Columbia University."
Jordan Brewington is a graduating senior at Columbia University. Her passion for archival research and public history of slavery began the spring semester of her junior year, culminating in a research project on which King’s College and Columbia students submitted runaway slave advertisements from the Class of 1760 to the Class of 1805. She has interned at the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice as well as the Whitney Plantation in Wallace, Louisiana, experiences which shaped her understanding of archival documents and museum work focused on the story of slavery. An African American scholar, her research is both an academic and personal endeavor. Her dream is to investigate and share the history around modern day institutions and slavery with those most implicated by that history in accessible platforms.
