Event description

Description

We hope everyone enjoyed the July break and had a great time in the sun! We are now back on August 1st to get serious with React and Redux Form! We are expanding our end of session networking time for everyone as well. With so many changes happening in tech and ways to connect in the community, there is a lot to catch up on so we wanted to give you time and food and a great space to do that.

It has been great to see the enthusiasm of the community and all the wonderful tech-focused activity. We encourage everyone to get out as much as possible and contribute where you can. Remeber to invite a friend and let your co-workers know; they might not be aware of what is FREE to the community.

5:30 Bring CSS into your JS with Styled- Components Cary Wolff - Full Stack Engineer Northwestern Mutual

6:00 Using Redux Form Allan Wick Consultant at AeroTek IT Solutions

6:30 Longer Networking Time!

Bring CSS into your JS with Styled-components.

Never again worry about clashing class names or even writing classNames for that matter. "But I use Bootstrap, will it work with styled-components?" Not to worry styled-components has you covered and can consume those styles! Snapshot test your styles much? "What?" "Oh, yea since styled-components will pull that CSS into our sweet, sweet JS we can run Jest tests on styles so that the new dev doesn't break the theme."

Using Redux Form

The Redux Form framework adds the ability to bind your forms to Redux in a consistent manner and provides selectors for pulling data from the form. This gets a little tricky when you are combining the framework with other custom components that you may use as well as if you have parts of the form that are re-usable components themselves.

We will discuss the Redux Form framework and how to integrate it into your application with strategies to solve the trickier problems you may encounter.

Meet our Speakers

Cary Wolff

I'm a Product-Focused Front End Engineer with an affinity for Communication Design and a passion for Javascript. A frequenter of the ReactJS, PHP, and Javascript meetups here in Milwaukee. I like to talk code and make friends with local developers and designers.

My nights indoors are spent researching new technologies like Reactjs, Redux, Axios, ImmutableJS. I enjoy keeping up to date with as much as I can in this ever-changing Javascript Ecosystem. I'm also usually a sucker for a new Blizzard game. I'll always settle for a good night with friends and a fun board game. Outside of the house, you can find me hiking, biking, camping, or canoeing in the wilderness of Wisconsin. I'm usually draped in some sort of Patagonia gear sipping an Aeropress cup of coffee.

Allan Wick has been developing software since 1990, working exclusively in object technology since early 1992. His experience includes object modeling and design methodologies, project management, and requirements gathering. Al has worked on projects in several different industries including banking, energy, financial, logistics, catalog, insurance, and home inspections. He also has successfully employed agile practices including continuous integration and test-driven development as well as implementing the SCRUM framework for the development process.
