Program | Works by Bach (Art of the Fugue), and Schlüter




One of a musical Swedish-German family, it was natural for Ann-Helena Schlüter to start learning to play the piano when she was 4. Her parents, Ann-Margret Schlüter (who taught at the University of Würzburg ) and Karl Heinz Schlüter (who taught at the University of Music in Nuremberg and Osnabrük) gave her first lessons.

Ann-Helena has studied in Cologne, Würzberg, and at Arizona State University. studying piano and chamber music. She went on to study musicology and analysis back in Würzburg, writing her thesis on Bach's Goldberg Variations. She has conducted further advanced study at the University of Leipzig.

She won first prize in many piano competitions in Germany and abroad: Steinway Piano Competition Hamburg, Nürnberg Piano Competition, Robert Schumann Piano Competition Zwickau, Prizewinner Bundes Competition Osnabrück, International Concerto Competiton MasterWorks Festival London. Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto with Jenaer Philharmonie, Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto with Masterworks Festival Orchestra in London. She has played concerts in Europe, Africa, Israel, USA.

Also a poet and writer, Ann-Helena was won several writing-competitions, published her lyrics, poems and songs and founded several music duos and ensembles. In 2010 both her debut solo CD’s were released by cap-music: one of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations: “Piano Lyrik”, and one of 17 of her own original songs and lyrics: “Jeden Augenblick”.

In addition to German, Ann-Helena speaks Swedish and English.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
There are no ID requirements for the concert series.
The concert space is quite acoustically live and open, so it's important to keep audience noise to a minimum so everyone can enjoy the music fully.
Children who are able to be quiet for the duration of a :45 to :50 musical performance are welcome.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption is located on Gough and Geary Streets. The 38 Geary stops nearby, There is also a parking lot

What can I bring into the event?
The performance takes place inside our sanctuary space, so please don't bring in food to eat or drink.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
The Cathedral Music Department can answer your questions at (415) 567-2020 x 213 from Wednesday through Saturday, between 10 am and 2 pm.

What's the refund policy?
Donation tickets can be refunded up to a day before the concert. You can also transfer tickets.

Do I need to bring a printed copy of my ticket?
No: We have a record of ticket purchases.
