Economic Development Opportunities in South Holland
In addition to being a business friendly community with strong community values, transportation access is one of three key benefits of commercial and residential development in South Holland, IL. Located in recently created tax increment financing districts, rezoned areas such as our Town Center T.O.D. and our Interstate Zoning District (near the intersection of I94/I80) present strong regional growth opportunities for the Southland area. Mayor Don DeGraff, Pat Mahon, Deputy Village Administrator, John Watson, Director of Economic Development
Chicago Southland Hospitality Industry Growth: Tinley Park Convention Center, Village of Tinley Park
The Tinley Park Convention Center—already one of the largest in the region—will more than double its exhibit space. The south suburban facility holds everything from business conferences and high school graduations to wrestling tournaments and reptile expos. An increase in demand sparked discussions about an expansion, officials said.“We knew when we built it 10 years ago that we were building a modest facility,” said Tinley Park Trustee Patrick Rea. “But now we can attract a whole new family of conventions.” MIke Mertens, Assistant Manager for Building and Development
Chicago Southland Vision 2020: Public and Private Infrastructure Projects
In this decade, multi billion dollar public and private projects are planned for the Southland. Although each project has been analyzed separately and functions independently, the synergy of the projects provides unprecedented growth opportunities for the Southland and an enhanced recognition in national and international markets. Since competition for funding is intense, leaders of three of the seven projects of Vision 2020 will present the latest status of the projects and how by working together we can bring these projects to fruition.
South Suburban Airport: Susan Shea, Director of Aeronautics, Illinois Department of Transportation
I/57 and I/294 Interchange: Diane O’Keefe, Deputy Director of Highways, Illinois Department of Transportation
Rocco Zucchero, Illinois Toll way Authority
South East Service Metra Line: Phil Pagono, Metra Executive Director
