Event description
Professional development for CS Awesome, a new free curriculum for the AP CS A Java course that follows the College Board AP CSA units.

About this Event

CSAwesome -- csawesome.org -- is a new free curriculum from the Mobile CSP team for the AP CS A Java course that follows the College Board AP CSA units and learning objectives.

Why is the professional development necessary?

We recommend that all teachers interested in using the CSAwesome curriculum and materials (i.e. the Runestone e-book, a complete set of lesson plans, and additional teacher resources) undergo our professional development (PD). The PD is structured to support beginner and experienced CS A/Java programming educators so they are able to successfully implement the curriculum during the academic year. The PD includes content and knowledge training and support from an experienced Master Teacher throughout the PD and academic year. CSAwesome PD is offered in two lengths and can be completed either online or hybrid (a mix of face-to-face and online).

  • For those Experienced with Java - Immersion PD (45 hours): $1750/teacher
  • For those New to Java - Extended PD (65 hours): $2400/teacher

When is it?

  • For those Experienced with Java (Immersion Online PD): June 22 - July 18, 2020 OR June 29 - August 16, 2020 (July 13-19 off)
  • For those New to Java (Extended Online PD): June 8 - July 18, 2020 OR July 20 - August 16, 2020
  • Additional PD opportunities available and listed on www.csawesome.org/professional-development

Which one should I register for?

Teachers are welcome to self select which PD they would like to participate in. However, we strongly recommend that only those who have at least 3 years experience with Java register for the "Experienced with Java" session

  • Experienced with Java - Recommended 3+ years experience with Java
  • New to Java - Less than 3 years experience with Java

How do I register?

  1. Click the "Register" button in the upper right-hand corner of this screen.
  2. In the pop-up window, select the cohort that you will be participating in by clicking the drop-down menu next to the ticket/registration option and selecting "1." If you are experienced with Java, select "Teachers Experienced with Java." If you are new to Java, select "Teachers New to Java."
  3. After you have selected the ticket/registration type, review the order summary and click "Checkout."
  4. Follow the instructions on the registration page.

How do I submit payment?

When completing registration, you will have the option to select pay by credit card, pay by check, or pay by invoice.

Pay by Credit Card: PREFERRED

NOTE: Due to COVID-19, Credit card payments are preferred at this time.

The College of St. Scholastica, which houses the National Center for Computer Science Education and the CSAwesome program, has restricted on-campus personnel due to precautions surrounding COVID-19. As a result, our finance department may not be able to receive or process non-electronic payments as quickly as we have been able to in the past. We encourage teachers to submit credit card payment over an invoice, check, and/or purchase order to prevent delay in processing your payment and registration to our training. If you have any questions, please contact us at csawesome@css.edu.

If paying by credit card, you will be prompted to enter payment at time of checkout. Please have credit card information available when registering.

Pay by Check: You will receive an email with more information for submitting payment. Checks should be made for the full amount and submitted at least one month BEFORE the PD begins.

Pay by Invoice: Select "pay by invoice" if you wish to pay by invoice OR purchase order.

Remit Payment To:
