Event description

Description

With the successes of cold spray technology continuing to build, we are excited to once again bring the CSAT Conference to the cold spray community. Scheduled for June 23 & 24, 2019 at WPI, this event promises to be our biggest yet with more applications, exhibitors, and new commercial success stories than ever before.

The theme for CSAT 2020 is "Structural Repair and Process Control" Abstracts will be accepted and can be submitted online at the CSAT web site. Exhibitors will be limited and accepted on a first come first serve basis. Exhibits and student posters will be set up right next to the main conference gathering room. CSAT attendance will be limited to 350. Last year's attendance was over 350 so early registration is encouraged, opening November 2019.

CSAT will offer attendees another packed agenda with information to include: (1) Machine Learning, (2) Advanced Materials (3) Feedstock Powders, (4) Structural Repair, (5) Additive Manufacturing, (6) Helium Recovery, (7) Applications, (8) Specifications and Standards, (9) Commercialization, (10) Quality Control, (11) Characterization, (12) Hardware.

This past year cold spray has continued to receive an unprecedented level of activity throughout the Department of Defense, Industry, and Academia. New facilities have been established at Corpus Christi Army Depot, in Texas, Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia, and Honeywell in Arizona while several others are planned at Norfolk, Portsmouth and Puget Sound Naval Shipyards, with others to follow, including Yokosuka, in Japan. Mobile and field deployable cold spray systems are being introduced and structural applications of cold spray have been approved. Cold spray also continues to expand into areas, outside of aerospace. There have been numerous DoD Programs funded in cold spray including the Army and Air Force Rapid Innovation Fund (RIF), Toxic Metal Reduction (TMR), Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP), Small Business Innovation Funds (SBIR), the Defense Manufacturing Science and Technology (DMS&T) Programs. Most recently, an Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) was awarded to ARL for the qualification and validation of Chrome & Nickel replacement cold spray coatings for DoD. All will be discussed regarding their relevance to the CSAT for 2020.

A Machine Learning “black box” was developed and will be demonstrated by Solvus Global at CSAT 2020. It will allow the collection and storage of large amounts of data that can be used to control the cold spray process above and beyond conventional means. The Machine Learning algorithms incorporate the characteristics of the feedstock powder, the spray parameters, as well as the condition of the cold spray nozzle to control the Cold Spray process.
