OVERVIEW:
The session will cover accounting and tax considerations for cryptocurrency.

SPEAKER BACKGROUND:

Todd Briggs

Todd Briggs specializes in providing consulting and attests services to proprietary trading firms, broker-dealers, futures commission merchants, hedge funds, fund of funds, and investment advisors. He also advises these clients on financial reporting, accounting policies, internal controls, including due diligence procedures and compliance matters including the SEC custody rule for registered investment advisers.

Todd has devoted a significant amount of time to the cryptocurrency asset class in recent years. He advises proprietary trading firms and asset managers on the operational risks associated with trading and investing in cryptocurrencies and developed RSM’s audit methodology for these entities. Todd has hosted cryptocurrency educational events and is a member of the Chamber of Digital Commerce where he participates on the Digital Assets Accounting Consortium. He is also part of a digital assets working group that is focused on developing best practices and liaising with regulators for the cryptocurrency industry with an immediate focus on valuation, custody and anti-money laundering.

Stan Kot

Stan Kot has more than 15 years of public accounting experience focused on the financial services industry. Stan provides tax compliance and consulting services to proprietary trading firms, broker-dealers, commodity pools, hedge funds and private equity funds. Stan advises clients on industry-specific issues including taxation of financial products, trading elections, reportable transactions and cross-border transactions.

Stan has recently been advising clients on the taxation of trading and investing in cryptocurrencies and has presented in educational events.
