Biomedical Services is proud to present the first of many camps. During this week long1/2 day camp 10th - 12th grade students will be working their way through the steps the Center for Disease Control follows when dealing with an epidemic. The students will determine that an epidemic exists, identify the pathogen, determine means of exposure, gather and analyze data to determine the degree of the epidemic and develop means to control and contain it.
This camp will include lab skills such as DNA extraction, PCR, ELISA, and Gel Electrophoresis. Graphing skills will be honed and statistical analysis (Chi Square, and Risk analysis) will be used to determine the presence of an outbreak. The scientific method will be stressed. At the end of the camp, students will present their findings to an audience of parents and professionals.
