You've heard of crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo and Kickstarter. They help startup organizations, passionate individuals and small businesses raise money through many donors pledging small amounts. St. Louis has seen hundreds of successful crowdfunding campaigns in recent years and we're lucky enough to have some of the most successful crowdfunders on tape for this event.
Join us on June 3rd at Perennial Artisan Ales (@PerennialBeer) for a happy hour and panel discussion and learn from:
- Corey Smale (@StrangeDonuts)
- Jamey Stegmaier (@jameystegmaier)
- Matt Sebek (@MattSebek)
- Aaron Perlut (@AaronPerlut)
We'll look at their success and discuss their strategies, especially the ways in which social media contributed to their success. The panel will be moderated by the always-incredible Travis Sheridan (@TravisSheridan) and eats will be on hand from Steve's Hot Dogs and Strange Donuts!
As part of this event, we will kick off* a crowdfunding campaign by Steve Ewing (@steveewing) of the Urge and Steve's Hot Dogs on the Hill. Steve is planning to raise funds through Indiegogo to help fund the expansion of his restaurant in Tower Grove East. Fans, customers and supporters of the Tower Grove neighborhood will be asked to support Steve's Hot Dogs by making contributions to his campaign, which will kick off that night.
In addition to the incredible panel, Steve will be on hand that night with ways that you can donate live that night and receive your Indiegogo perks - even some exclusive to SMCSTL members. We expect this event to sell out fast, so get your tickets quick!
Corey Smale (@StrangeDonuts) launched a successful kickstarter with his partner Tyler Fenwick in 2013 to raise $10,000 in order to fund their donut shop Strange Donuts. The campaign relied heavily on social media and resulted in 324 backers providing $12,500 for the shop. The shop, which delivers on the promise implied by its name, launched in 2013 in Maplewood and serves up donuts including the Chicken and Waffles done and the Gooey Butter donut.
Jamey Stegmaier (@JameyStegmaier) has crowdfunded board games to the tune of nearly $1,000,000 on Kickstarter. Jamey is a writer/blogger, game designer, entrepreneur and owner of Stonemaier games. He writes a series of Kickstarter lessons for aspiring project creators at stonemaiergames.com.
Matt Sebek (@MattSebek), co-founder of RookiesApp.com and JoeSportsFan.com, turned to crowdfunding with his partner last year in order to launch their podcast. The campaign ran for 30 days in 2013 and exceeded their $5,000 goal with $6,142 raised by more than 100 supporters.
Aaron Perlut (@AaronPerlut) co-founded digital marketing and public relations agency Elasticity, as well as Rally Saint Louis, a first-of-its kind regional improvement-focused crowdsourcing and crowdfunding platform that was recognized by the International Place Marketing Forum, an annual international conference hosted by the Regional Attractiveness & Place Marketing Chair at Sciences Po Aix University, for best practices in regional marketing and citizen engagement.
Travis Sheridan (@TravisSheridan) will be moderating our panel for the event and we are thrilled to have him. Travis is sure to entertain all with his witty banter, but also brings his own expertise as the Assistant VP of Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership.
