Description

Cross-Racial Dialogue Group: The Art of Giving and Receiving the Gift of Racial Feedback (Bay Area)

This program is rooted in the idea that conflict, discord and empathetic failure are part of each of our racial inheritances. We believe that healing the wounds inflicted on all of us by white supremacy and other forms of domination requires the courage to pass through discord on the paths to harmony and repair. This working group was created to offer a much-needed opportunity for us to examine the ways that white supremacy, and anti-black racism in particular, live within and are expressed through each of us. This work will be done in the context of a professional learning community in which participants mutually invest in one another’s growth.

Our ongoing group will build our capacity to transform personal, professional and institutional practice by first working on behalf of our own racial integrity. Participants will engage in self-reflection, body-based practices, and facilitated cross-racial dialogue; they will leave with expanded personal capacity and concrete tools for engaging in meaningful cross-racial community spaces in their own institutions.

This program is intended for white folks, Asian folks, Black folks, Indigenous folks, Latinx folks, and mixed folks of varied comfort with cross-racial dialogue, and will be a LGBTQ+ affirming space.

This program is NOT designed to “teach you what to do”, “help you get it right”, or serve as a space for “taking in others’ stories”. Intellectual engagement, emotional investment, interpersonal risk-taking and learning to soothe your own body are necessary to transform the ways in which you engage in the world.

School leaders, middle managers, K-12 teachers, coaches and other staff are welcome.
