About Krzysztof Wodiczko
Krzysztof Wodiczko is renowned for his large-scale slide and video projections on architectural facades and monuments that address themes of trauma, collective memory, and the power of mass media to disseminate and manipulate information. Across four decades, he has created over 90 public projections and installations worldwide that often involve the active participation of marginalized and estranged city residents. One of these public projections was on the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown, MA, in 1998, part of the “Let Freedom Ring” series of art installations along Boston’s Freedom Trial.

Wodiczko was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1943, and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1968. He is currently Professor in Residence of Art, Design and the Public Domain at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. Among his numerous accolades, he received the Hiroshima Art Prize in 1998 “for his contribution as an international artist to world peace.”

Wodiczko’s work has been exhibited in Documenta, Paris Biennale, Sydney Biennale, Lyon Biennale, Whitney Biennial, Montreal Biennale, Liverpool Biennale, Yokohama Triennale, International Center for Photography Triennale, and other international art festivals and international exhibitions. He represented Poland in the Venice Biennale in 2009, and held a retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul in 2017.

About the Paul J. Cronin Memorial Lecture
The Paul J. Cronin Memorial Lecture series was established in 1981 to consider topics broadly focused on changing attitudes towards twentieth and twenty-first century art. The Cronin Lecture series is made possible by a generous grant to deCordova from the Grover J. Cronin Memorial Foundation.
