In celebration of LGBTQI+ history month, Critical Sexology and the Tavistock LGBTQI+ Staff Network present ‘Trans Over Time’. An afternoon of presentations, conversations and performance about the topic of trans and trans people in different contexts over time.

Date and time- 1.30-5.30pm 8th February

Location- 5th floor lecture theatre, Tavistock Centre, 120 Belsize Lane, London

This is a free event, but it is essential that you book a ticket. Enterance without a ticket will not be permitted.

Speakers

Domenico DeCeglie - Honorary Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS), Tavistock. Domenico, in conversation with an ex GIDS client, will discuss how he set up GIDS 30 years ago and how it has development over time.

Jane Fae - Writer and campaigner. Jane will present her perspective on how trans people have been represented by the media.

Bean Sharp - 3rd Year PhD Candidate in English and American Studies at the University of Manchester. Bean’s research historicises the category 'trans' to understand how it functions and uncover some of its inherent instabilities.

Igi Moon - Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of Sociology Warwick University. Igi will present on how trans has been discussed within academic contexts.

Respondent- Jay Stewart - Co-founder and CEO of Gendered Intelligence.

In order to ensure that the seminar is a safe and welcoming space there is a code of conduct that attendees are expected to adhere to. By booking a place at the event you agree to adhere to the following.

  • Be respectful of all attendees
  • Be respectful of other’s gender identities.
  • Avoid deliberately misgendering other attendees and presenters. If you make a mistake, apologise and move on.
  • Refrain from using language, or expressing opinions in a way that undermines gender diverse identities and experiences.
  • Use inclusive and respectful language in the broadest sense. Language and/or behaviour that is deemed to be racist, homophobic, ableist, sexist or otherwise discriminatory or abusive will not be tolerated.
  • No video or audio recording of any kind is permitted during the event.

If your behaviour does not respect the above Code of Conduct you may be asked to leave the event.

Access and practical information

Nearest Tubes are Swiss Cottage and Finchley Road, and there are multiple local buses. There are parking bays for blue badge holders, but no general parking facilities on site, however there is paid parking in the local area.

There is step free access to the building. The talks will take place on the fifth floor and there are two lifts that access the whole building.

There are gender neutral and larger gender neutral accessible toilets as well as single sex toilets in the building. Yet all of these are not available on every floor.

Baby changing facilities are available on the ground floor.

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide hearing loops or BSL signers for this event. The room is a reasonable size and all speakers will be encouraged to use microphones.

It is a free event, but it essential that you book a ticket. If you wish/need to bring a carer, support person of friend with you they also need to book a place.
