Event description

Description

The Oregon Health Authority Public Health Division's Health Security, Preparedness and Response program will host a Basic Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) training.

About the course

Individuals and groups process information differently during a crisis. In order to protect health and save lives, health communicators and their partners need to be prepared to convey information in a manner that their audiences will understand. CERC will introduce health communicators to principles and tools that support effective communication during a public health crisis.

Jamie Bash, Risk Communications Analyst and Jennifer Graham, Medical Counter Measures Coordinator will facilitate the training using CDC curriculum. Media training, led by Jonathan Modie, OHA-PHD External Relations, will be paired with the CERC course.

Who should join?

In an effort to build the division’s capacity to communicate during a public health emergency; each program is encouraged to send 1-2 people. Many programs have skills or relationships with community partners that would benefit an emergency response. So, please come join us even if you don’t see an obvious connection.

Managers, please forward this registration information to your program’s selected participants. Candidates managers may want to consider include:

  • Themselves
  • Staff who already support crisis and emergency risk communications
  • Health educators
  • Those who interact directly with PHD partners and clients
  • Those involved in other program or agency communications.

We are also reserving a handfull of sister agencies.

Additional Information

Registrants may print or download course materials found on the CDC CERC Resources page. Electronic copies of the materials will also be made available at the training.

Registrants will be sent a survey prior to the training. The first provides trainers with information about attendees' professional background and learning goals. It also contains a pre-test. Trainers will use results to tailor the training to the needs of participants. Participants will receive pre- and post- test results after the training to help them celebrate successes and consider opportunities for professional development.

If you have any questions please email Jamie at Jamie.P.Bash@state.or.us or call her at 971.673.1394.
