Event description

Description

North Central Public Health, in partnership with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), will be hosting Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) Training on June 26 & 27 at Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue from 8am to 5pm each day. There is no charge for the course and forty spots are available.

About the course

Individuals and groups process information differently during a crisis. In order to protect health and save lives, health communicators and their partners need to be prepared to convey information in a manner that their audiences will understand. CERC will introduce health communicators to principles and tools that support effective communication during a public health crisis.

Jamie Bash, OHA Risk Communications Analyst and Kristy Beachamp, OHA Public Health Emergency Preparedness Liaison will facilitate the training using CDC curriculum.

Who should join?

Candidates who you may want to consider include:

  • Emergency Managers
  • PHEP Coordinators
  • Public information officers (County or public health)
  • County or public health leadership
  • Public Health Staff who already support or who have an interest in crisis and emergency risk communications
  • Those who support Public Health Services that could be disrupted during a crisis.
  • Communicators from key public health partners with whom public health would like to have a common understanding of how to approach crisis communications (e.g- hospitals, non-profits providing health services or that serve vulnerable populations, first responder agencies)

If there is overwhelming interest priority will be given first to local public health, tribal health authorities, and medical partners.

Additional Information

Registrants may print or download course materials found on the CDC CERC Resources page. Electronic copies of the materials will also be made available at the training.

Water, tea and coffee will be available. Meals are not provided, but there are several options within a couple of miles.

Registrants will be sent a survey prior to the training. The survey provides trainers with information about attendees' professional background and learning goals. It also contains a pre-test. Trainers will use results to tailor the training to the needs of participants. Participants may request their pre- and post- test results after the training to help them celebrate successes and consider opportunities for professional development.
