Event description

Description

Please join us for dinner and discussion about what we can do to help transform the juvenile justice system that has caught up many youth. The conversation will be led by A'Jamal Byndon, Douglas County DMC Coordinator. Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) is a term to explain that youth of color are over-represented in the juvenile justice system. However, it is being replaced by a new term, “Racial and Ethnic Disparities” or RED. Joining us will be Captian Ken Kanger, Deputy Chief of the Omaha Police Department.

There are four points that we plan to cover during the evening:

1. A status update on what is happening in the juvenile justice system, including feedback from the Douglas County-Georgetown DMC Cohort;

2. Issues related to the school-to-prison pipeline;

3. What information is available to the public to help transform the justice system;

4. Ways that participants can get involved in local and state-wide reforms.

This event is free and open to the public. Dinner is included (and catered by Big Mama's)!
