Justin Nystrom will be at the Italian Cultural & Community Center in Houston, Texas to share more about his book "Creole Italian: Sicilian Immigrants and the Shaping of New Orleans Food Culture"

In his book Creole Italian, which came out Aug. 1, Nystrom explores the influence Sicilian immigrants have had on New Orleans foodways.

About Justin:

Justin Nystrom is an Associate Professor of History at Loyola University New Orleans where he directs the Center for the Study of New Orleans. A specialist in nineteenth and twentieth century America, his publications include New Orleans after the Civil War: Race, Politics, and a New Birth of Freedom (2010) and Creole Italian: Sicilian Immigrants and the Shaping of New Orleans Food Culture (2018). He considers himself an old-fashioned generalist, but his research interests often dwell at the intersection of culture, politics, economy, and technology. Nystrom lives in Uptown with his wife Jess and two young sons, Virgil and Henry Francis.
