Description

CREATIVITY + STORYTELLING
Robert Louis Stevenson said “Wine is bottled poetry.” For the final chapter in our Storytelling series we embrace our inner Stevenson with Sacramento Poet Laureate Jeff Knorr and viticulturist Ann Kraemer of Shake Ridge Ranch and Yorba Wines.

JEFF KNORR
In 2012, Jeff Knorr was named Poet Laureate for Sacramento city and county. Jeff has authored numerous books of poetry including, The Color of a New Country, The Third Body, Keeper, and Standing Up to the Day. His other works include Mooring Against the Tide: Writing Poetry and Fiction; the anthology, A Writer's Country; and The River Sings: An Introduction to Poetry. His poetry and essays have appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies including Chelsea, Connecticut Review, The Journal, North American Review, Red Rock Review, Barrow Street, and Like Thunder: Poets Respond to Violence in America. He currently directs the River City Writer’s Series at Sacramento City College. Jeff has been the Chair of the English department at Sacramento City College and he has also served on the Sacramento County Office of Education Arts Advisory Board.

ANN KRAEMER
A respected viticulturist, Ann Kraemer developed Shake Ridge Vineyard relying on her 25 years of experience in the premium wine industry. After earning her stripes managing vineyards for Domaine Chandon and Swanson, she eventually moved into consulting with wineries and vineyards, including Cain, Calera, Hobbs and Shafer.

Though she thrived in the industry, Ann longed for a chance to farm again. Shake Ridge Vineyards is proving a worthy, and demanding, subject for her passion. By custom-farming small vineyard blocks, Ann is able to provide Yorba and the other Shake Ridge winemakers the highest quality fruit. As Ann says, “It’s all in the details”.
