Event description

Description

This workshop, led by international theatre creator and writer Coleen MacPherson, aims to provoke the imagination and crack open a participant's unique expression and vision of the world. Over two days we will be asking ourselves: how do we see the world? what is unique to our own style of writing?

Creative Writing: How Do You See? focuses on how to connect to our own unique self-expression and writing process through observation and movement. It looks at the writing process as a visceral exercise and through the use of a variety of source material we will develop dialogue, character, plot and form. The goal is to inspire writers (of all genres) and creative types to capture the world in writing and trust your own unique voice. We pay special attention to the rhythm of words and image and how to transpose the world into words. We will look at examples of writing and analyze it while also sharing our writing in class within a framework of constructive dialogue. The idea is to bring a group of writers in a room together to share work and provide a space to experiment.

MacPherson's joy in teaching is also a joy gained from a desire to collaborate and develop relationships with working artists in Toronto and to stimulate new methodologies of creation with her company Open Heart Surgery Theatre.
