Established and new writers are welcome. If you’ve never written anything before but want to start, this is the place to learn. If you're a seasoned pro, why not challenge yourself with the writing prompts and discussion?
We meet at Portesham Village Hall twice a month. On the second Thursday of the month, we have fun with words, wrangling and wrestling them using creative writing prompts and being taken out of our literary comfort zone. We also discuss how we write and what might improve it.
On the third Thursday of each month, we meet for a feedback workshop that helps hone our individual creative writing projects. Excerpts from short stories, novel extracts, poetry, creative non-fiction, competition entries and memoirs are welcome, but a slot must be booked in advance for the relevant meeting date. You can find upcoming meetings listed in the events section of the website.
A full schedule of regular workshops for 2025 is on the website here: Chesil Bank Writing Shed Workshops 2025
In 2025, additional courses and workshops will discuss the business side of writing including topics such as how to market your work, writing for the web, being a writer on social media, publishing and self-publishing.
The writing group is hosted by Linda Parkinson-Hardman, writer, author, and founder of the Writing Shed and the International Hysteria Writing Competition. You can find out more about Linda and check out her work on Substack where she shares regular writing prompts with her mailing list.
Tea, coffee, biscuits (and the occasional cake) during breaks are included.
Cost: £10 per person, per workshop
