Event description

Description

Masterclass Information: This 3-hour masterclass is a fun, rigorous introduction to creative writing, with relevance to 11+ preparation, common entrance and general enrichment (appropriate for a range of ages, across years 4/5 and, in some cases year 6, with basic and advanced content). Creative Writing is often a sticking point for children at this stage and gaining the best advice can be tricky. As a first step, this course will cover all of the stylistic techniques that a child should master in their development to high quality writing. How to use verbs and openers effectively? How to structure sentences rhythmically, to make every moment interesting? How to design your own similes and metaphors? Moreover, the course promises to be engaging, inspiring and enlightening, with an instructor whose track record for success and student-enjoyment speaks for itself. The class will be kept small, to ensure quality. Tickets are limited and places will fill quickly.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to popular request, a small number of tickets are now available for parents to join, for learning these methods and better supporting creative writing at home.

About the instructor: Alexander Rosenberg (BA, MSc) is a certified BPSI educational consultant, using unique, creative methods to train and inspire teachers, tutors, parents and students across the UK. As a studio-based artist and published writer himself, he also employs a background in neuroscience research at UCL and Harvard, to communicate cutting-edge methods in creativity and learning. His approaches have been adopted both across the UK and Europe, as well as USA and Asia, with his illustrated resources proving popular among educators and children alike.

The cost covers the 3 hour masterclass, resources used in the class, snacks, free access coupon to the LinkyThinks Creative Writing Hub and handouts of several LinkyThinks resources, including a printed A3 Word Wheel Pack.

What should my child bring to the event?

Please make sure your child brings the following to the masterclass: Pens, pencils, coloured pencils, pad of A4 lined paper, scissors and a folder for handouts.

What's the refund policy?

As there are very limited places available (the class will be kept to a maximum of 10), we cannot refund tickets in fewer than 7 days prior to the event. In extenuating circumstances, please contact the event organiser to discuss.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, please.

Will there be a break/will food be provided?

Yes, a 15 minute break will occur half way through. Drinks and healthy snacks will be provided at this point, but please make sure your child has eaten lunch prior to the class. If your child has dietary limitations, please contact the event organiser to specify.

Can I attend the masterclass with my child?

Parents are welcome to come in for the introduction, but we ask that they leave children to thrive in the group without parental support. Two fully DBS-checked professionals will be supervising the class at all times. If your child has particular emotional or educational needs, please contact the organiser prior to the event. Parents who wish to stay to learn the techniques themselves can, however, buy a ticket for themselves, but there are only a few available.

The map provided shows you the location of Alston Works. However, please come to the adjacent Falkland Road, which is the rear entrance of the building. An instructor will meet you on Falkland Road, 15 minutes before the class begins. Do not come to the Alston Road entrance. Please arrive early.
