Creative Time Summit Speaking Truth | Health & Gender

About this Event

Ted Kerr & Dr. John Steever, moderated by Tai Jacob

Hosted by The Center and moderated by Tai Jacob, host of the podcast Gender Blender, the event features Theodore (ted) Kerr, writer and founding member of What Would an HIV Doula Do? in conversation with Dr. John Steever, Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center.

They will explore how their work amplifies the daily realities and legacies of resistance and solidarity by those who exist outside the gender binary. The program will consider practical and theoretical strategies for survival, care that goes beyond the embodied self, and prosperity, as making strides towards queer and trans liberation.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Theodore (ted) Kerr is a writer, organizer, and a founding member of What Would an HIV Doula Do? He edited, WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT AIDS COULD FILL A MUSEUM, the latest issue of the ON CURATING journal. He is writing a book with Alexandra Juhasz exploring a cultural history of HIV.

John B. Steever, MD is a medical practitioner and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center in Manhattan, New York. As the Health Champion for HIV Medical Services, Dr. Steever strives to provide quality health care to youth who are in need. He also is the primary medical provider of the Transgender Health Project.

Tai Jacob is a scholar and activist who works with multiple mediums to engage concepts of trans-ness, transformative justice, and the limit(lessness) of our bodies. They host and produce the podcast Gender Blender, where they interview trans, Two Spirit, and (a)gender creative artists and activists about their work.

Speaking Truth | Health & Gender is generously hosted by The Center.

This is the final discussion as part of our programming celebrating 10 years of the Summit, including a three part discussion series, a new publication, and a multi-day convening.
