Event description

Description

Through the medium of textiles we will explore, what it is to be human, the experiences we have from the mundane to the profound, and how we each cope differently (either through anxiety, or joy, gratitude, anger etc.).

Also we will be looking at anxiety and depression in terms that everybody would be able to relate to rather than feel alienated and create a 'Free Hand's Encyclopedia of Emotions', a book made from felt and textile collage pages that everybody contributes to, which will make a great piece for the exhibition plus dispel a few myths about mental health.

Rebekah Whitlam is a textile artist and support worker. Primarily based in Sheffield, she also runs classes at a community library in Grimsby. As an artist her main focus is using traditional craft skills to tackle contemporary issues. She is a firm believer that art is a wonderful tool for navigating the trials and tribulations of life no matter who you are.

All materials are supplied.

As always you are free to bring something of your own to work on or just come along and drink tea!
