Event Details

CLINIC DESCRIPTION:

This highly interactive grant writing clinic will focus on three objectives, namely, to:

a) Prepare grant writers to fully comprehend, appreciate, and be responsive to funding opportunities from the point of view of the funder, grant reviewer, and grant manager,

b) Prepare grant writers to interpret and analyze the significance and implications of a grant program’s review criteria, and,

c) Review, discuss, and evaluate each clinic participant’s prospective or previously submitted application (one application per participant), inclusive of successful or unsuccessful applications for funding.

If time allows, we will explore essential ideas for designing your next application by briefly highlighting pivotal ways in which organizations will need to practice to be effective in the 21st century.

See the clinic registration page for details about what you will need to bring.

The clinic will be conducted by John Cusano, former Community Development Coordinator at the CT Office of the Arts, Department of Community and Economic Development. John has designed and managed numerous grant programs, served as a grant review panelist for regional, state, and national funders, and has written many applications of his own and edited myriad others. As an organizational development consultant for social benefit organizations and municipalities, Cusano synthesizes his experience in community engagement, the social benefit field, integral science, and the formal knowledge of natural systems and self-organizing principles.  See Bio.

PREPARATION FOR THE CLINIC:

Each clinic participant should bring a combination of the following materials, dependent on current grant programs of interest and/or grant applications already submitted:

  • For a grant program of current or future interest, supply a single page copy of the “Program Overview” or “Guidelines” (or similar) that describes the funder’s investment goals, objectives, and parameters.
  • For a grant program of current or future interest, supply a single page copy of the “Review Criteria” (or similar) that describes how submissions will be evaluated and selected for funding.
  • A single page copy of a key section of your grant application narrative, whether it is excerpted from a yet-to-be submitted application or from a prior (successful or unsuccessful) submission.

NOTE: Please bring a minimum of 12 copies of the selected single pages described above for distribution to the facilitator and all participants during the clinic.

Please arrive 10 minutes early
