Event description

Description

You've spent months on that design proposal and countless revisions. But your client still refuses to accept it. The project is getting further delayed every day. What do you do?

We've all heard horror stories of nightmare clients who reject all your hard work. But in fact, client objections is normal in all creative industries. Getting the project done is about effective communication between both parties, and understanding each other's values.

Pocket Square and H Space jointly presents Overcoming Client Objections, the first session in a lecture series called Creative Crisis. In this talk, Pocket Square founder Nicholas Tan will give you insights about how to communicate with your client and get the project moving.

There's also a special Q&A session with Pow Ideas, the designer behind the popular establishments such as Merchant Lane, APW and The Bowling Club.

Furthermore, Bristol's senior industrial designer Aditya Vernekar will share insights on the learning curves of designing a product in the office furniture category, how to evaluate design performance and the process from concept to development and production.

About the speakers

Nick Tan, Founder of Pocket Square

Nick Tan worked as an architect on high end residential projects in Singapore before moving back to Kuala Lumpur. In 2014 to he founded Pocket Square, a design + build studio focusing on residential and commercial projects.

Starting as a solo-preneur, the team is now 5-person strong. Nick believes that strong business ethics and principles will guide creative businesses forward.

Kyle E & Jun Ong, Co-founders of POW Ideas

Founded in 2015, POW Ideas is a Kuala Lumpur-based collective initiated by Kyle E & Jun Ong.

They were both trained as architects in Melbourne & London with two trajectories of interests, Kyle with landscape architecture and Jun with light art.

The name reflects the collective’s attitude towards projects i.e. with a “pow!”

With a strong interest in material exploration, typologies and compact spaces, the collective constantly look at challenging the ways we sense, and the ability to push the notion of built form across fields of design.

Aditya Vernekar, Senior Industrial Designer of Bristol

Born and raised in India, Aditya's design journey started young, influenced by his father, also an Industrial Designer and Electronics Engineer by profession. He has a background in Construction Engineering and a degree in Product Design at Curtin University.

His approach to design is that an object must entice a certain level of emotion and excite an individual at the first sight, and it should unambiguously boast of its materiality, the engineering expertise endorsed by it, the possibilities that can be harnessed in its application, and most importantly, the function it predominantly serves. To him design is all about intelligence and diligence made visible.

Note:

Coffee, tea and water will be provided.
