Like math, music theory is often considered intimidating & uninteresting. Many musicians avoid learning these rules and figure out how to play & compose “by ear”.This can lead to a limited ability to perform & create. With just a basic understanding of the fundamentals of music theory, one can experience the benefits of deeper musical knowledge…listening to, composing, and performing music on a deeper & broader level.’
Join musician and educator Matthew Von Doran for an insightful and accessible workshop that will explain the fundamentals of music theory in a manner that someone with little to no musical experience can comprehend. The focus will be on how this knowledge can be used to enhance any musical experience for the learner.
The clinic will start & end with a short musical performance on guitar.
This class is designed for adults but is open to all ages and can accommodate 45 participants.
Creative Experience is a digital makerspace at St. Louis Public Library.
