Careers and Employability in partnership with the College of Arts at The University of Lincoln brings you the event Creative Careers Festival 2018.
Careers events for the six different schools within the College of Arts including; English & Journalism, Fine & Performing Arts, Architecture & Built Environment, Design, Film & Media and History & Heritage. All sessions are open to any current students and graduates.

*HIGHLIGHT* INDUSTRY PANEL EVENT: Publishing and Getting Published
Panel includes:
Christopher Cooper , a freelance writer, editor and illustrator. His critically acclaimed Doctor Who novel “The Krillitane Storm” was published in 2009, and he has written numerous Doctor Who comic strips and several audio dramas for Big Finish productions. He has also written blistering comic book adventures for Transformers, Merlin, Torchwood, Star Wars, and Puss in Boots, and edited the Official Star Trek Magazine from 2012 to 2018. Cooper currently edits Star Wars Insider magazine, and is writing a novel based on the 1970s sci-fi drama series Blake’s 7.
Nick Jones started out in the 1990s as a music journalist – writing and editing for dance music monthly Mixmag, editing its weekly spin-off Mixmag Update (later 7 Magazine) and generally having a whale of a time. In 2000 he moved into sci-fi and genre publishing, serving as editor of Star Trek Magazine (a position he recently reassumed) and Memorabilia Magazine before becoming senior editor of comics and graphic novels at Titan Books, where he edited Dan Dare, James Bond, Modesty Blaise and Wallace & Gromit graphic novels. Since then Nick has edited numerous books, including Comic Book Design, Sci-Fi Art: A Graphic History, 500 Essential Cult Movies, 500 Essential Cult Books, The Art of Osamu Tezuka: God of Manga, Alan Moore: Storyteller, The Art of Neil Gaiman, The Art of Movie Storyboards, the Draw in 15 Minutes series, the 5-Minute Sketching series, Electri_City: The Dusseldorf School of Electronic Music, The Art of the Pulps, and Justice League: The Ultimate Guide. He is the author of Guardians of the Galaxy: The Ultimate Guide to the Cosmic Outlaws and Guardians of the Galaxy Ultimate Sticker Collection; co-author of The Mysterious World of Doctor Strange; has written for the Marvel Fact Files and The Walking Dead: The Official Magazine, and blogs at Existential Ennui and The Violent World of Parker.

Panel includes:
Sam Pidoux - Sam currently works as part of the journalism and Public Relations team at the University of Lincoln. She has a duel role within the School of English and Journalism and work as a Learning Adviser and a senior lecturer.
Sam has freelanced for most of her career alongside her work at the University of Lincoln. She has worked for BBC local radio, and currently freelances for commercial radio and writes for a number of local and national publications. She is a keen and enthusiastic food blogger who is passionate about food and where it comes from. Sam created and blogs about gluten free food. In 2009 Sam won two multi-international award for her document called ‘Letters of Love from Home’.
Spadge Nunn - Spadge is a Freelance Writer and Author based in Lincoln. She works with start-ups and agencies around the world, and both her books won The Bookbag's Top Ten Self-Published Books of the Year.
Sean Strange - A freelance photography and video technician, Sean has had over 900 images published around the world, work has been featured by such outlets as, BBC, Digital Film Maker Magazine, Combat Aircraft, Air Cadet Magazine, Canadian Aviator, Flypast & the Lincolnite. A current member of the Royal Photographic Society with an Associates Distinction.
Chris Matthews - A designer and historian at the Lincoln School of Media, College of Arts. Matthews research and practice has been centred upon local history and urban design. Previous roles include; consultancy, public history, graphic design and academic research.

Come and meet our panel of History graduates from a diverse range of industries. They will be sharing their career stories and how they sold their skills to employers. The panel includes:
Steve Burdett – BA (Hons) History, 2011
Steve is currently working at Nielsen Brandbank. Nielsen Brandbank is a global leader in the creation and distribution of CPG content for ecommerce sites, mobile shopping apps and virtual merchandising applications. Steve’s role is ‘Global Head of Professional Services’ and within this position he manages appropriately 25% of the businesses group revenue and has 13 direct reporting lines. The role also includes a significant amount of international travel with his day to day being both strategic commercial lead and client facing SME.
Harriet Horn, BA (Hons) History, 2014
Harriet is a HR manager at Parliamentary Digital Service where she supports 450 members of staff in delivering services for a modern parliament. On a daily basis, she supports managers and the organisation from a HR perspective, manages the operations so the teams can function and recruits staff. Harriet has been at PDS for just over two years starting off as a HR advisor.
Holly Roberts, BA (Hons) History, 2017
Holly works in the heritage sector as a Visitor Experience Coordinator at an independent, fully self-funded National Museum. Her role is to incorporate multiple aspects of the museum and heritage work such as the exhibition design, event management, day to day running of the museum as well as general visitor experience. Holly is part of a management team of individuals all under the age of thirty within the museum which challenges conventional heritage learning and aims to offer a modern and interactive museum experience.

As part of The Creative Careers Festival, come and meet, question, and be inspired by a panel of leading UK industry people, all nationally and internationally recognised.
The panel includes:
SIMONE REYNOLDS, one of the UK’s most celebrated film, TV and theatre Casting Directors.
AMY DAWSON, the Student and Events Co-Ordinator for the actors’ union, Equity.
ANDY ROWLEY, Executive Director, Stage Management Association, and award-winning TV Producer.
TARQUIN SHAW-YOUNG, Managing Director & Head of Casting, the Stagecoach Agency, and National Council Member, Entertainment Agent's Association; and PAUL MOORE, The Association of British Theatre Technicians.
The evening will be a Question Time style panel discussion which focusses on the current 'state of the industry', and on how university drama, media and audio students, graduate students, and academic programmes can best respond to the ever-evolving needs of the theatre and entertainment sector. The discussion will address entry pathways and career opportunities for students wanting to get into a range of jobs in the entertainment industry, including technical theatre, acting, casting, design, being an agent, directing and producing.
The event will be chaired by Andy Jordan, LSFPA Principal Lecturer (also a director and producer in theatre and radio drama, whose recent credits include directing The Inn at Lydda for London’s Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre).
