INSTRUCTOR BIO: Susan Sayyed and Serene Sayyed (of Serene's Bakery)
This power team of bakers has been bringing people together with desserts of all kinds for many years! You could say that Susan brings the recipes and Serene makes them beautiful. This combined experience has made them great partners. They have catered weddings, birthday parties, baby showers and family reunions for years, enjoying all of the hugs and smiles along the way!

A Kansas native, Serene is a graduate of the Johnson County Community College Hospitality Management program. Through the program, she was able to professionally hone skills she’d been practicing for years. Serene is an avid baker and cake decorator extraordinaire! When not baking, Serene loves playing with her energetic son, Muneer!

A New Jersey native, Susan holds a bachelor’s degree from Emporia University’s Business Management Program and a master's’ degree from Avila University’s Education Program. A former middle and high school teacher, Susan loves activities with her husband, five children and three grandchildren...and baking! She brings traditional family recipes that go back for generations, but she’s not afraid to modernize them and add a new twist. Coming up with new ways to delight family and friends with new desserts always brings a smile to Susan’s face!
