The First International CAD Conference
“Tracing Our History, Planning Our Future”
April 6-8, 2018
Chicago, Illinois
Creative Ability Development – using music as a language and improvisation as a tool to develop the creative part of the brain, leading to unique musicality, artistry and advanced creative thinking.
We invite CAD teachers worldwide to come together to share ideas, to celebrate our past, and to plan for our future. In this, our first ever international conference, we will build relationships, learn from each other, share ideas and work together to expand, cultivate, and nurture our growing community!
Teacher Training Opportunities
Teachers new to the CAD pedagogy will have the opportunity to receive CAD Teacher Training from co-authors Alice Kay Kanack and Sera Smolen, beginning April 5th, one day prior to the conference, and extending throughout the weekend. There will be multiple opportunities to observe and participate in all levels of CAD pedagogy.
Experienced Teacher Opportunities
Experienced teachers will be able to:
- Bring student groups to participate and perform
- Share their unique programs in workshops
- Experience the method through advanced level performance classes to hone their skills
- Participate in the introduction of the new Pre-School CAD programs including the release of the new pre twinkle books for violin, viola and cello and introducing the new CAD flute and string bass books!
- Attend multiple sessions on a variety of CAD topics
Experienced Student Opportunities
Students from existing CAD programs will be able to enjoy meeting and improvising with their peers from around the world. Their experience will include:
- Jam Sessions
- CAD Sessions with multiple teachers
- Attending Concerts
- Performing in ensemble pieces
- Creating music for dances and silent films
New Student Opportunities
Students new to CAD will be placed in age/level appropriate classes and will be able to experience the joy of CAD in a carefully controlled environment. Beginners of all ages are welcome!
