Event description

Description

Ever wanted to create your own children's book or comic book, or know somebody who does? If the answer is yes, read on.

This one-day seminar will take participants through the process of developing a visual narrative from concept to finished piece. It will be run by author Luke C Jackson and artist Antoine Toniolo, whose extensive experience in the arts includes the picture book 'Professor Willoughby's Last Robot'.

On the day, Luke and Antoine will guide you through a range of topics such as how to create compelling plots, memorable characters, and evocative settings using words and pictures. They will also discuss strategies for successful collaboration, which is a must if you intend to work with another artist or artists to realise your creative vision. There will also be time during the day to discuss your personal project with Luke and Antoine.

And don't worry if you don't come along with a fully-formed story idea; there will be plenty of activities to get you thinking and creating no matter where you're at, creatively speaking. The day is all about learning, trying new things, and meeting other like-minded people.

This workshop is intended to be a hands on experience, suitable for individuals and pairs of all abilities (ages 12 and up). If it sounds like something you would be interested in, and you'd be able to make your way to Melbourne's inner North for a full day to participate, just follow the link to sign up.

The cost for the day is $80 full price or $50 concession, which includes a wonderful lunch provided by Zaatar and a signed copy of 'Professor Willoughby's Last Robot' (RRP $15). For every 10 paying participants, Luke and Antoine will partner with New Futures Creative, a community organisation dedicated to building healthy and nurturing relationships between cultures through the arts, to offer a place to somebody who has struggled with disadvantage.

There is plenty of parking behind the venue (off Munroe Street), however there is a tall flight of stairs, and no disabled access. All you need to bring with you is something to write and draw on, and with.

We look forward to meeting you on the day. In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to email luke@lukecjackson.com
