About this event

The Invisible Struggle:

Creating Visibility to the Rising Rate of the Victimization of Black Women and Girls

The Cleveland Public Library and The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center invite you to join them for a virtual conversation to talk about the victimization of Black females.

Sexual violence has historically been used as a tool to control individuals and groups of people in the United States. When addressing the sexual violence faced by Black women and girls, we must examine the historical trauma associated with the continued victimization experienced by Black women.

Approximately 40% of Black women report some form of sexual violence before turning 18. Cleveland Rape Crisis Center will host a community forum to increase the community’s knowledge regarding the victimization of Black women and girls.

As a community, we must establish a more equitable response to decrease victimization.

During this virtual conversation we will:

1. Examine the prevalence of victimization that Black survivors of sexual violence experience

2. Identify ways to minimize victimization

3. Examine ways to establish a more equitable response for all survivors regardless of race
