Event description

Description

Learn some interaction design techniques for mixed reality in this workshop. Participants will receive an overview of mixed reality and will be given design exercises based on HCD principles.

Speaker: Lillian Warner

As designers, we create user flows and give them to developers, product managers, clients, and other stakeholders. User flows showcase the scope and vision of an application before it is fully developed. A typical user flow for web and mobile applications usually only has one type of user interaction: clicking. But a mixed reality application has many different types of user input options available. How can UX designers create user flows that clearly and concisely illustrate the precise interactions in a mixed reality experience, while also still providing a big-picture roadmap of their app? This question came up for me as I worked with a small team to design and develop a HoloLens app last year. After my team and I completed our project, I applied my experience to trying to answer this question in a concrete way. I created two user flow templates for mixed reality applications and designed and held a workshop to test out and refine my ideas.
