Event description

The Creating Focused Goals Institute helps school leadership teams learn a process to enable teachers' professional goals to be strategic, with a greater impact on student learning. This institute addresses how adults learn best, how to create goals that align with student needs in the classroom and how a school leadership team can support teachers in growing in their practice based on a focused goal. Participants in this institute learn a process to create focused goals and ensure that teachers’ goals positively influence student learning and their own instructional practice.

Who should attend the institute?

The institute is for anyone who helps teachers develop focused goals that positively influence student learning and their own instructional practice — principals, instructional coaches, teacher leaders and central office leaders — ideally attending the institute as a district or school team.

Can I pay by check or purchase order?

Sorry, only credit card payments are accepted for this institute.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions about the institute?

Should you have questions or concerns or need assistance for any reason, please contact CEL at (866) 577-8066, or send an email to edlead@uw.edu.

Where should I stay?

The Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Seattle/Northgate — the institute venue — is an ideal lodging option. The Hampton Inn is a stylish new hotel conveniently located off of I-5, with easy access to Northgate Mall, Woodland Park Zoo, the Space Needle and Pike Place Market. The Hampton Inn is holding a limited supply of rooms for institute attendees at a discounted rate. Register for the institute first and then look for a booking link in your order confirmation email. Contact the Hampton Inn & Suites directly at 206-522-6991 with any questions about lodging.

Is there on-site parking?

Yes, the Hampton Inn & Suites offers day parking for $5 plus tax and overnight parking for $10/daily plus tax.

What does the institute registration cost include?

The registration cost includes access to all institute sessions, beverages, lunch and snacks, materials, and a certificate of completion. The registration cost does not include lodging, travel or meals other than those specified. Attendees must book lodging and travel separately.

Are clock hours available?

Yes, clock hours will be available for Washington educators for an additional fee of $10. Information will be available at the institute.

How will people on the waitlist be notified if space in a sold-out institute becomes available?

Once an institute reaches capacity, you may add yourself to a waitlist. If spaces open up more than one month prior to an institute, the event registration system Eventbrite notifies people via email in the order that they joined the waitlist, and gives each person 24 hours to register. If the person does not register in the 24-hour period, Eventbrite notifies the next person on the waitlist, and so forth. Within one month of an event, any open spaces are filled on a first-come, first-registered basis by notifying everyone on the waitlist via email. Please add @eventbrite.com, @uw.edu, @k-12leadership.org, and @hubspot.com to your safe sender's list. Note that the refund policy applies to people registering from the waitlist.

May I transfer my institute registration to someone else?

Yes. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to someone else. You may request a registration transfer by calling (866) 577-8066 or sending an email to edlead@uw.edu, ideally at least 14 days prior to the institute. Be sure to include: your name; the name of the program, workshop, or course; your phone number; and your email address. Please provide us with the following information for the person you are transferring your registration to: their name; their job title; their organization; their phone number; their email address; and whether they require special meals or ADA accommodations. Failure to include all necessary information may delay the transfer.

What's the refund policy?

Refund requests for programs or workshops with in-person attendance must be received at least 31 calendar days before the program start date. A full refund will be made for requests received within this time period. Requests received less than 31 calendar days, but more than 14 calendar days, before the program start date will be subject to a $75 service fee. No refund will be made for requests received 14 or fewer calendar days before the program start date.
