SCOM 101 | Creating Data and Information Visualizations

ABOUT THE CLASS
Effective visuals play a critical role in communicating scientific data and complex ideas to a diverse audience. This interactive workshop will help you explore best practices, resources, and tools for creating data and information visualizations that tell compelling stories. Hands-on guidance during the workshop will assist students with current projects. BYO computer highly recommended.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
Sarah Morris, MA, MS
A librarian and non-profit director, Sarah Morris has a decade of experience working as an educator and program coordinator in museums, libraries, schools, and higher education environments. In 2014, Morris co-founded Nucleus Learning Network.
Emily Weerts, BA
A program manager who has developed and managed STEM-focused education courses and multi-disciplinary art based events, Emily Weerts co-founded the Nucleus Learning Network where she currently serves as the co-director.
COURSE POLICIES & FAQS:
Registration & Cancellation Policy | Payment is required in full the day you register. We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule a class if it does not make a minimum number of registrants. We will notify you 24 hours in advance should we have to cancel a course and we will provide a full refund. We will refund your registration, less a 25% cancellation fee, up to 15 days prior to your class. Please note that cancellations made with less than 15 days notice are nonrefundable. In the event you can no longer attend your class, registration may be transferred to a friend or family member free of charge.
What should I bring? | You should bring a laptop if you have one, and any work-in-progress you'd like the instructors to take a look at.
Is there an age requirement for your classes? | Students must be 16 years of age or older to participate in our courses. Occasional exceptions to this requirement (such as for kids classes) will be mentioned in the course description or may be made with the permission of the instructor.
Do I need to print my ticket? | No, you can help us go green by letting us check you in electronically at classtime.
Where is my class location? | This class meets at Art.Science.Gallery. which is located in the Canopy fine arts complex at 916 Springdale Rd., Building 2 #102, Austin, TX 78702. There's plenty of free parking.
