Creating Cultures of Thinking and Empowered Learning  (Bay Area)

Ron Ritchhart and the work of Project Zero (PZ) played a vital role in CATDC’s (then BATDC’s) early success to improve teaching and learning in our schools. In celebration of our 20th anniversary, CATDC is delighted to partner with the Town School for Boys to bring Ron Ritchhart back to the Bay Area along with his PZ colleague and co-author, Mark Church.

This two-day Summer Institute will explore the following questions:

  • As we turn toward developing students as problem solvers, creators, and innovators, how do we incorporate what we know works around thinking routines and deep learning?

  • How do we demystify the process of thinking in order to gain a window into what our students understand and to support them to learn more effectively?

  • What does it mean to lead and facilitate a culture of thinking?

Incorporating the practices central to making thinking visible, this dynamic program will support educators to leverage thinking routines in order to create a culture of deeper engagement and learning in their classrooms.

Learning with and from PZ researchers and practitioners, participants will:

  • Explore the core dispositions of good thinkers and engaged learners

  • Develop an understanding of the power and potential of visible thinking for both teachers and students

  • Discover new tools, strategies, and frameworks

  • Apply new skills and knowledge to lesson planning and curriculum development

  • Develop a community of learners within and beyond their peer schools

  • Develop approaches for facilitating the growth and development of adults around these ideas

This workshop is ideal for teachers in all disciplines and grade levels (K-12), curriculum coordinators, academic deans, and division heads. To amplify the learning, we highly recommend that you take advantage of our group discounts and attend with a team from your school.
