Event description

Description

Moss gardening expert Flora O’Brien will be leading this class on how to have a cool, green, thriving moss garden. She’ll discuss the natural history of mosses, so as to make establishing and caring for a moss garden more understandable. She’ll then cover different ways to encourage the spread of mosses you may already have on your property; how to plant new moss areas; and how to keep your moss healthy and thriving. She will also bring in moss samples so you can see some different mosses that you may have in your yard (or may want to have), and can delight in these beautiful plants.

About the Instructor:

Flora O’Brien has tended several of the moss gardens in the Asiatic Arboretum at Duke Gardens for the past 6 years. She also gives talks and presentations to local garden clubs, the Duke Gardens volunteer Tuesday Talks, and the Durham County Master Gardeners. Flora’s focus is to help people appreciate mosses and to use them in the home landscape.
