Creating a New Front End                                        Changing the Way Students Enter Adult Basic and Literacy Programs to Improve Persistence and Ensure Deeper Learning

Two Webinar Sessions for the Price of ONE!

Two Part Webinar:   May 6 and May 13, 2014, 4:00 - 5:30 PM EST

 3:00 - 4:30 PM CST;  2:00 - 3:30 PM MST;  1:00 - 2:30 PM PST

Description:

What’s the definition of insanity? OK – you get it!

Now is the time to redesign and align your program’s front end – how you welcome, engage, and grow new students.

• How can we meet students where they are and start their experiences using research-based best practices?

• How can we build learners ready to learn with the insight and skills needed to stay the course and become successful learners?

• How can we engage current students to co-create this new front end and use their wisdom to stretch our designs with valid learner wisdom?

Adult education and literacy students come into programs with no more insight, no more successful learning skills, and no more positive feelings about school than when they walked out of school. So, why have we thought that all we needed to do is give new students a quick orientation, test them with TABE, Gain, or CASAS, then tell them what they need to learn and what books or computer programs to use to acquire all they need to learn to pass the GED or a high school equivalency test?

Join this two-part (for one price!) webinar for a look at what the research is telling us holistically about the students we serve, the critical components of a new front end course, and see samples of front-end courses called: PowerUp, StartSMART, Success 101, Career Camp, Boot Camp For Success!, etc.
