Creating a Dementia Friendly Community
Presented by: Rebecca Dutter and Lisa Koenen of the Kenosha County Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC)

The ADRC is a free, “one-stop shop" for older people, people with disabilities and their families. They provide objective, reliable information and guidance on a wide variety of topics. Rebecca is the Supervisor of the Adult Protective Services and Lisa is the Volunteer Guardianship Coordinator as well as the Dementia Friendly Community Project Coordinator. Every 67 seconds someone in the United States is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. In Wisconsin alone, there are 100,000 people diagnosed with dementia. This number is expected to triple by 2050. Most of these people living with a form a dementia, like Alzheimer’s disease, live in our community, not in a facility.

This presentation will provide the audience with:

● What is dementia and Alzheimer’s disease- what is happening to the brain
● What is normal aging and how is it different from dementia
● What are the signs of dementia
● What is a Dementia Friendly Community and how does it impact all of us
