This month, we'll be joined by Sylvia Acevedo, CEO of Girls Scouts of the USA who is taking on this issue head on with co-hosts Gloria Feldt, President & Co-Founder of Take The Lead and Reshma Gopaldas, Vice President, Video Programming at SheKnows Media.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Sylvia Acevedo is an award-winning entrepreneur who has earned worldwide recognition for her work in addressing one of society’s most vexing challenges – universal access to education. Sylvia started her career as a rocket scientist at the Jet Propulsion Labs where she worked on the Voyager mission’s fly by of Jupiter and its moons and the Solar Polar/Probe missions.

As an engineer at IBM, she led the redesign of state of the art manufacturing facilities that became an international showcase. Leveraging her technical training in the technology industry, she served as an executive with Fortune 100 companies: Apple, Autodesk and Dell. She holds a Master’s degree in Systems Engineering from Stanford University where she was one of the first Hispanics, male or female, to have earned a graduate engineering degree. Sylvia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from New Mexico State University which in 2010, named Sylvia as one of their most Distinguished Engineering Alumni.

Sylvia currently serves as the CEO for the Girl Scouts of the United States.

The result: she wrote the bestselling book No Excuses: 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think About Power to give women practical Power Tools that break down their unconscious barriers to greater personal and professional success.That book led to the organization Take The Lead and comprehensive leadership programs such as the 50 Women Can Change the World.

Cohost: Reshma Gopaldas has been creating video content with a focus on women’s rights and health for over 15 yars. As the Associate Director of Creative Services and Talent Engagement at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, she produced, directed, and wrote the majority of their video content, and managed their celebrity supporters. Prior to that, she worked in film and television production in New York, with notable directors and actors. Her work has been featured on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, CNN, ABC, HuffPo, Jezebel, Fox, etc. Today, she heads video for SheKnows Media, which includes BlogHer, Stylecaster, Soaps.com, HelloFlo and SheKnows.com.
