Event description

Description

Join us on Wednesday, May 3rd from 6:00pm-9:00pm to create your own bonsai! Linda Schubert and Gene Deci will host this workshop for bonsai beginners and will take us through the process of pruning, wiring and potting a nursery boxwood.

The $45 fee for this make-and-take class covers all materials needed.

This class is open to the public but advance registration is requested and limited to 13 participants.

About Linda:

Linda Schubert has been doing bonsai for less than ten years but she has quite a 'resume' already! She is President of the Sakura Bonsai Society for the third year. Last year, Linda was one of eight people selected nationally for the Joshua Roth New Talent competition. She has won an Award of Excellence at the Michigan All State Bonsai Show which is held each year at Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. Linda is a serious student of the art of bonsai and has created beautiful trees.

About Gene:

Gene Deci saw his first bonsai tree almost 50 years ago and was smitten from the start! His wife got him the best book on bonsai available at the time as a gift for their first Christmas together. Gene started his current collection about 20 years ago, shortly before joining the Sakura Bonsai Society. His trees have won the Award of Excellence at the Michigan All State Bonsai Show and the People's Choice voting for best tree in the show. Gene really does bonsai for the joy of it: "The time I spend working on my trees is its own reward."
