Event description

Description

Join us in building a prosthetic hand for a child in need. This class is for anyone over 16 years old.

One of the latest applications in using 3-D printing and open-source file-sharing is to build custom prosthetic hand for children and adults in need. Childrens' bodies grow quickly and need hands frequently.

We want to focus on the high demand for prosthetics to fill their growth demands. These wonderful hands are both customizable and a cost effective solution.

You will learn how the complex, life-changing hands are made via 3-D printing. This hands-on learning experience is fun and rewarding. At the end of this workshop, you will have completed a working prototype for a prosthetic hand.

Classes will be held at FUSE Makerspace (www.fusemakerspace.org) where you will have the opportunity to learn all of the services they provide to the community, as well as become a member.

You MUST be over 16 (with parental consent if under 18 years old) in order to participate.

If you are under 18, have your parent appear with you at 8:30AM on October 6, 2018 to fill out the consent form.

Note: This class is a prerequisite for future classes that will create a REAL PROSTHETIC HAND for an actual child.

Classes meet on FOUR Saturdays in October

October 6, 13, 20, 27 from 9AM - noon
