Create a Living Art Installation with Native Plants at Cooley Landing!
Sat, February 25, 2017, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM PST
Join us for a morning of native planting unlike no other!
***Please note: program begins promptly after 9:30 am! Please arrive on time to hear the artist speak about the project. Rain or shine. Only heavy rain cancels.***
We are collaborating with local artist Linda Gass to create a permanent land art installation with native rushes (Juncus species) at Cooley Landing to mark the former shoreline of San Francisco Bay. This installation replaces the one created during Linda’s Creative Ecology Residency last year.
Who: Volunteers of all ages are welcome! Minors under 18 require a signed waiver and children 12 require an accompanying adult unless prior approval is obtained from the workday supervisor. Large groups or private groups can contact Jessica Sanchez at jessica (at) grassrootsecology.org for their own special program dates/hours.
What: Volunteers will learn about the land art installation and will plant native juncus rushes to replace the current temporary installation made of blue plastic survey whiskers.
Where: Cooley Landing, 2100 Bay Road, East Palo Alto, CA 94303. We will meet at the Cooley Landing Education Center. Carpool, bike, or walk if possible.
Please bring: A reusable water bottle and dress for outdoor work (sturdy, close-toed shoes and long pants recommended). We provide gloves, water, snacks and tools. Minors under 18 must bring a waiver form signed by a parent.
Rain or shine. Only heavy rain cancels.
