Create a Garden Journal

Overview

Join us for a day-long workshop where you will create a unique, painted garden journal inspired by the house and garden at Goodnestone Park.

Join us for a day-long workshop with renown journalist Shilpa Agashe, where you will create a unique, painted garden journal inspired by the iconic house and garden at Charleston.

Our day of journaling begins with a guided tour of the historic grounds at Goodnestone, rich with artistic heritage, bold patterns and expressive colour.

Next, we will step into Goodnestone’s walled garden to begin journaling in nature. Here you will collect sketches, patterns, observations and photographs focusing on the botanical details and seasonal beauty that speaks to you. Through guided exercises, Shilpa will help you develop your eye, deepen your attention and discover personal connections.

After a lunch break, we will bring all our notes and sketches together and start creating mini, four-page garden journals. Using watercolour, ink and pencil, you will transform your impressions into a beautifully crafted, expressive keepsake.

Join us at The Coach House, Goodnestone Park, (open to all over 18, no experience needed) including tea, coffee, introductions, garden entry, a delicious lunch at the Old Dairy Café, and free onsite parking, with access requirements welcomed, contact us to discuss.

Once regularly visited by Jane Austen, Goodnestone Park carries a quiet, creative charm that makes it an ideal setting for a garden journaling workshop. Set within 15 acres of beautifully designed gardens, the estate blends elegant formality with peaceful woodland paths and wide, open views. The Walled Garden, reflective ponds, terraces, and sweeping lawns offer a serene backdrop that naturally encourages observation, presence, and gentle artistic focus.

Across the grounds, sheltered corners invite stillness, perfect places to pause, breathe, sketch, and allow the colours and textures of the garden to guide your pen and watercolours. With its historic house, tranquil atmosphere, and ever-changing play of light, colour, and scent, Goodnestone Park provides a nurturing landscape where you can slow down, reconnect, and explore the mindful practice of garden journaling in a setting that feels both timeless and deeply restorative.
