CREATE 2017: 3rd Annual Gala to Benefit Commercial Real Estate Education, honoring Shorenstein Company
CREATE, an alliance of NAIOP SF Bay Area Chapter, BOMA San Francisco & BOMA Oakland/East Bay, IREM SF Bay Area
Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Commercial Real Estate Alliance for Tomorrow's Employees (CREATE) is a collaboration of NAIOP San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, BOMA San Francisco, BOMA Oakland/East Bay, and IREM San Francisco Bay Area, whose focus is to expand and strengthen the commercial real estate workforce. Funds raised through this event will directly support San Francisco State University's Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Certificate program to develop a "job ready" workforce.
On May 18, join Signature Sponsor Hathaway Dinwiddie, Legacy Sponsor Kilroy Realty, 300+ commercial industry real estate professionals, fellow alliance members, and partners for a night of fun, camaraderie, excitement, and the opportunity to hear from our honoree, The Shorenstein Company, as well as graduates of certificate program. This year’s Master of Ceremonies is KCBS’ Morning Anchor, Stan Bunger, a veteran emcee of the gala.
The event promises to continue its tradition of providing a fun-filled night with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction (new this year -- a wine vault and Tiffany jewelry raffle, too!), and an opportunity to make a difference in the future of the Commercial Real Estate Industry.
Proceeds from the 2017 Gala benefit CREATE in its effort to support college-level training courses through San Francisco State’s Commercial Real Estate Certificate Program, career counseling services, paid internships, and scholarships— all to prepare potential employees for jobs in the commercial real estate industry.
Support for CREATE addresses our growing need for “job ready” commercial property professionals. Providing hands-on training, financial aid, internships and job placement services to economically disadvantaged students wishing to pursue a career in commercial real estate and related service industries ensures a sustainable future for our industry. Shorenstein Company is CREATE’s 2017 Honoree
Shorenstein Company has a 70-year history as being one of the most influential business and civic leaders in San Francisco. Their accomplishments are many, including building some of the most iconic structures on the skyline, spearheading the successful effort to keep the Giants from leaving the City, and providing organizational leadership and financial support to leading cultural and philanthropic institutions including SFMOMA, United Way, Aim High, The Asian Art Museum, UCSF Medical Center, and Jewish Vocational Service.
What Shorenstein may be best known for, however, is its pioneering ventures taken with measured and sometimes high risk. In the early 1980s, Shorenstein was the first to build South of Market. In 1985, with the acquisition of 555 California Street, Shorenstein set a record on the West Coast for the highest price paid for an office building. And in 2014, eyebrows were raised once again when Shorenstein acquired the Western Furniture Exchange a vacant 1.1 million square foot building located in the moribund Mid-Market submarket. Shorenstein redeveloped it into Market Square, a dynamic office and retail project that catalyzed the revitalization of Mid-Market into a home to tech companies, upscale restaurants, and new residential towers. The industry often gives Shorenstein credit for being the bellwether of real estate trends. Over 70 years, Shorenstein has been a leader in building not only the physical structures that define San Francisco, but also the civic, cultural, and philanthropic organizations that uniquely animate our beloved City by the Bay.
