Description

El Cerrito's Human Relations Commission will host a public screening Cracking the Codes in El Cerrito with guided discussion with a panel of experts.

Marguerite Welch, Ph.D Adjunct Associate Professor and Director, Master of Arts in Leadership Program, School of Education, St. Mary’s College of California. Marguerite has a focus on transformational learning and change. She completed her Ph.D dissertation on the topic of White Privilege.

Daisy Ozim, Founder and CEO, Resilient Wellness. Resilient Wellness is a nonprofit organization founded by health and public policy professionals to address the reality of multigenerational trauma in marginalized communities.

Jorge Lopez, CEO, AMPS Charter School Network. AMPS works to improve student academics for families in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. The AMPS Model strives to promote the relevance of an outstanding public education to students and families in urban inner city regions.

From Shakti Butler, the director of “The Way Home: Women Talk About Race in America” and “Mirrors of Privilege: Making Whiteness Visible” , comes a new film that asks America to talk about the causes and consequences of systemic inequity. Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequity features moving stories from racial justice leaders including Amer Ahmed, Michael Benitez, Barbie-Danielle DeCarlo, Joy DeGruy, Ericka Huggins, Humaira Jackson, Yuko Kodama, Peggy McIntosh, Rinku Sen, Tilman Smith and Tim Wise.
