Event Details

Instructor: Ray Sanders (@DearAstronomer) with support from Georga Bracey, Nicole Gugliucci, and Pamela L. Gay

Enrollment: 8 students max (minimum 5 students needed)

(We MAY be able to increase the class size to 13... stay tuned)

Location: Online, using Google Hangouts on Air for a fully interactive experience


In this 8-session, 4-week course, we'll be exploring our modern understanding of galaxy formation and evolution with a brief introduction to large scale structure and cosmology. 

Week 1.) Intro to Galaxies / "Island Universe" debate, Distance Scale

Week 2.) Galaxy classifications / The Milky Way

Week 3.) Structure of galaxies, Quasars, AGN, Redshift/Hubble constant

Week 4.) Intro to cosmology (Big Bang, Nucleosynthesis, Geometry of the Universe, dark matter/energy, and student project presentations.
